As we begin to wind down in the greenhouses, our vegetable gardens are just starting to gear up. A lot of planting needs to be done in a short period of time to insure an abundant crop of fresh produce is available all summer long.
Fresh asparagus begins the year during May and early June and then by mid June the strawberry crop begins. We sell freshly picked strawberries by the quart daily or if you are interested in larger amounts, please call ahead to place your order.
Mid July will bring fresh kohlrabi, green and yellow beans, cucumbers, red beets, zucchini and the first new potatoes. Also mid July is time for raspberries. Once again, please call ahead to order larger quantities.
By late July and early August we are well into our produce season and add another wave of vegetables. Foremost is delicious Sweet Corn that is picked fresh daily. We handle a number of bicolor, supersweet varieties, so if Mother Nature cooperates, we will have fresh sweet corn daily for the rest of the summer. Also added to the palette are items such as tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, sweet and hot peppers, cabbage, onions, dill and cantaloupe.
In the past few years we have made a connection with another farm market that takes trucks to Michigan to pick up fresh fruit, so we are able to carry Michigan Peaches, blue berries, and other fruits that are in season.
And finally, as we move closer to fall, we have that final wave of apples, both for eating and baking, and the squashes. The winter squashes include acorn, buttercup, butternut, festival, and spaghetti squash. Hopefully we have something that will satisfy your appetite.
